Suicide is intentional
self-termination. Often when a person is victimized to the
point where they feel the only choice left is to end the pain,
humiliation and misery by ending their life. It's self-homicide.
Regrettably, suicide is one of the prime causes of death in
North America. Statistics show that suicide is one of the
foremost public health problems. Sadly, three out of four
times, women are most likely to injure themselves purposely
whereas three out of four times, men kill themselves.
In our society,
people are bombarded by stress and negative energy. Individual
experience many variety and intensity of grief. Grief is a
deep sadness caused by dilemma, defeat and hysterical chaos
in one's life.
It could be
anyone of the following:
· Working
in a high-tension environments.
· Making decisions between unfavourable or unpleasant
choices.
· In a conflict, not given an opportunity to defend
oneself.
· Loss of a close relationships.
· Loss of financial, physical, mental and emotional
needs.
Grief leads to
suicide. Excessive grief at one time overwhelms a person emotionally,
mentally and physically. The mind and body become numb. That
is when reality and rational thinking becomes impossible.
Suppressing grief
for a long time in a high stressful environment leads to clinical
depression. Stresses exacerbate physical illness such as migraine
headaches, gastrointestinal discomfort, loss of the ability
to effectively manage financially, maintaining relationships
and dealing with work issues.
Psychological
signs to notice:
· Depression
· High/Low level of energy
· High/Low interests in life
· Changes in eating and sleeping habits
· Ignoring personal appearance
· Symptoms of anxiety or anxiety related illness such
as head-ache and stomach-ache
· Behaviour and attitude change
· Unusually quiet or aggressive/anger
· Dropping out of job, school and hobbies
· Constantly talking about death, suicide and expressing
through creative methods
· Suicide attempts
· Engaging in dangerous activities such as careless
driving and having unprotected sex
· Excessive alcohol and drug use
· Giving away possessions, writhing up wills, writing
up farewell letters and saying "good-byes"
Beware of these symptoms:
1. Feeling of
worthlessness.
2. Feeling of loneliness.
3. Feeling of misunderstanding and judgement by peers.
4. Feeling of being criticized for everything one does.
5. Feeling of humiliation and difficulty in coping with it.

to stop a suicide from happening:
· Recognize
the individual attempting suicide
· Create a positive environment
· Gently be helpful and sensitive to the need of the
individual going through depression and distress
· Attempt to be positive and influence with "stop
suicide" message
· Show care and understanding
· Show respect and the importance of the individual's
life
