Hello! Bula! Namaste!

A few weeks later, he confessed to me that he was only in Canada on refugee status. He knew I was once a refugee, too. He got my empathy by speaking about how it is like being refugee and feeling as if people were treating you like nobody. He suggested that since he was now my fiancé, it would be right to apply for a marriage license. Sensing my fear, he added that it was not a marriage certificate so I did not need to worry. He knew I did not want to marry at twenty-one. He knew my plans and goals to go to college. After a few months, he seemed frantic and became adamant about getting married.

One night we went to the beach with some friends. I remember walking away from the group and announcing to my fiancé that I was not going to marry him.
I understood that we were engaged but I did not like the fact that he seemed so determined to get married right away. I confronted him concerning his lying on our earlier dates about the new car he had supposedly bought. I knew it was not his. At first, he was very furious and accused me of playing him for a fool. I asked him to think about how different we were from each other. Our culture and background would be a problem in the future. He told me that our relationship and marriage should be given a chance. He asked if he could stay over at my family's home that
night so we could discuss this matter further and come to a reasonable decision.
