Traveling back in time nearly eleven years ago, I was twenty-one years old and too young to understand how devious and apprehensive an immigrant wanting to stay in Canada could become. I became entangled in a web of deception, betrayal and greed. I became a victim of the marriage sham. My
immediate family was separated at this time due to political problems
that arose in my motherland. I and the other female members of
my family became refugees in Canada. I grew up in the poorest
area of Vancouver and was isolated from relatives, including those
living in the Lower Mainland, as well as our ethnic community.
Influenced by Canadian culture, church and our own culture, we
werea simple, hospitable and openhearted
family. |
