The
irony of my story is that I was once a refugee and marriage had
been suggested as a sure-fire way to stay in Canada. I stood against
making a mockery of marriage and demeaning its true purpose. It
is immoral and against my principles to use a person for the sole
intention of staying in Canada. Involving myself in such dehumanizing
behaviour would have tormented my conscience. How would I be able
to look at myself in the mirror and love what I am? What kind of
moral ethic and legacy would I pass down to my children? My side
of the coin is a true tale of a marriage sham, practiced in our
society as a way to gain entrance into Canada. I advocate against
the marriage sham.
